Why Ukrainian women-owned businesses make perfect sense. In this screenshot we are discussing our pipeline of Ukrainian women-owned SMEs that we are supporting with LifeLine Ukraine and Women In (WIN). The reasons to focus on women-owned SMEs in Ukraine are various. Men join the army more frequently than women. Women are often more resilient, conscientious, loyal, and long-term oriented than men. My 28 years in Eastern Europe simply show that women are often a better bet than men. And they are better borrowers than men.

When we passed the local checkpoint, the soldiers were looking in the air. I asked them if they saw a bird, but laughingly they answered that they saw the trail of a a ground to air missile that was fired. A minute later we passed the smoking testimony of this missile. We were in the middle of nowhere, but it experience shows that it is unpredictable where it is safe and where it isn’t.

We spent the last days in Chernihiv, Kiev, Zaporizhya, and Sumy to organise and plan the last mile delivery of these clothes. Ready for action!

24 trucks in 24 weeks. We are still on target and we have great results. But, the humanitarian needs in Ukraine are increasing with Autumn and Winter coming, while the interest in Ukraine in the West is decreasing. So we are not there yet and we need to continue with our efforts!
